Each standard package of IOSAT tablets contains 14 tablets, each of which contains 130 mg of potassium iodide. The tablets are double-scored so that they can be easily split into 65 mg dose for young adult and cut again to 32.5 mg for child doses. IOSAT tablets are FDA approved for thyroid protection in a radiation emergency. Take 1 per day during emergencies. All packs are dated with manufacturing date.
Potassium iodide (KI) tablets are typically used to help protect your thyroid gland from the effects of radioactive iodine, which is a byproduct released during a nuclear emergency or radiological occurrence. Iosat potassium iodide tablets are the most well-known product for this type of emergency, provided in 130mg tablets to help protect your thyroid from iodine poisoning when radioactive iodine is a concern. KI provides non-radioactive iodine, which is absorbed into your thyroid and the KI will then absorb the radioactive iodine to help reduce damage to your thyroid in a nuclear condition. 130mg is the typical dosage for adults over 21 and 65mg is suggested for young adults age 16-20. The potassium iodide tablets can be crushed and mixed in water, or most any drinkable liquid. Use the potassium iodide tablets only during an emergency, one tablet a day. A pack of 14 IOSAT tablets normally provides 1 person a 2 week use.
